AI in Dortmund-based Companies: Economic Development Agency Launches Survey
How are companies in Dortmund using artificial intelligence, and what does it take to implement AI successfully? The Dortmund Economic Development Agency is launching a survey of companies to address these questions. Companies of all sizes and from all industries are eligible to participate, regardless of whether they are already making extensive use of AI or are just beginning to gain experience with it.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming business models, work processes, and skill requirements. For Dortmund as a business hub, this presents the challenge of providing targeted support to companies during this transformation and further developing the necessary framework conditions.
The planned AI study aims to provide, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of the current situation in Dortmund: Which applications are already in use? Where do companies see concrete potential? And what challenges are still hindering the adoption of AI?
That is why the perspectives of all Dortmund-based companies are now needed. The results will help to further develop practical support services, strengthen cooperation between business, academia, and other stakeholders, and strategically expand Dortmund as an AI hub.
Participating companies will also benefit: The study highlights developments and differences across industries and shows how companies can assess their own level of AI maturity. This will provide a practical overview of the current state of AI usage in Dortmund.
The survey runs from June 1 to July 31, 2026 and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The results will be presented at Digital Week Dortmund in mid-September.
